TRAVELLING around MADRID

Madrid’s airport is Adolfo Suárez Madrid - Barajas International Airport. It has an Information Office, for any query that the delegates might have at their arrival.

To get downtown Madrid from the Barajas international airport you can choose between three options:

  • Taxi: The travel is about 30 minutes and costs 30€. Taxis are white with a red stripe, and all use taximeter. NOTE: Not all taxis admit credit cards.
  • Metro: Take the Metro destination to “Alonso Martinez” station. The travel is about 40min. From the airport take “line 8” direction to “Nuevos Ministerios” and when you arrive to this station take “line 10” direction to “Puerta del Sur”. “Gregorio Marañon” is the next stop. The hotel is just there. Business hours are from 6:00 am to 1:30 am working days and holidays all through the year.
    • Single ticket fare: 1,50 - 2 €
    • 10 trip ticket (bus & metro): 12,20 €
    • Single trip fare from/to the Airport (extra charge): 4,5 - 5 €
    • Extra charge from/to the Airport for travellers with a single or 10 trip ticket: 3 €
  •  Bus from Airport T1, T2, T4: Bus Line 200 to “Avenida de América”. Get off at “Avenida de América” stop (end of line), then take metro “line 7” to “Gregorio Marañon” metro station.
  •  Bus from Airport T1, T2, T4: Bus Line 203 to “Atocha-Renfe”. Get off at “Atocha-Renfe” stop (end of line), then take metro “line 1” to “Tribunal”, get off and take “line 7” to “Gregorio Marañon”
  •  Bus: From Airport T1, T2, T4: Airport Express Bus to “O’Donnell”, “Cibeles” and “Atocha-Renfe”. Preferably get off at “Atocha-Renfe” stop (end of line), then take metro “line 7” to “Gregorio Marañon” metro station.
Tourist Passes may be purchased at the Passenger Services Centre at the Airport station for 1 day to 7 days. The tourist pass is the most practical and economical way of travelling around Madrid. It can be used for an unlimited number of trips on all public transport in Madrid within the valid period. The tourist pass is personal and non-transferable and, at the time of purchase, an official document (Passport) must be shown to prove identity.
Zone A Tourist Pass in Madrid includes Metro services, Madrid EMT (buses) and Renfe Local Trains. Prices: 9 € (1 day); 15,50 € (2 days); 20 € (3 days); 29 € (5 days) and 38,50 € (7 days).

CURRENCY

The Spanish unit of currency is the Euro (€). Currency notes are in denominations of: 500 €, 100 €, 50 €, 20 €, 10 €, and 5 €.
Coins are in denominations of 2 €, 1 €, 50 euro cent, 20 euro cent, 10 euro cent, 5 euro cent, 2 euro cent and 1 euro cent.
Foreign currency and travellers’ cheque can be exchanged at banks, authorised exchange agencies, at the airport and most hotels. Major credit cards (Visa, American Express, MasterCard, Dinners Club) are welcome at hotels, restaurants and stores.

Dear friends, We are glad to share the planning for the partners visit in the morning. The lunch is organized by 14:00 at " Residencia de Estudiantes del CSIC ", Pinar street 21-23, 28006 Madrid.   JUST REMEMBER TO BE IN TIME (09:55AM) at the lobby of the Miguel Angel hotel, as the bus has very limited time granted for boarding. Remember once again, the weather is expected to be sunny and 30ºC during the day and 18ºC during nights (source weather.com ), so please wear comfortable shoes and dress accordingly.

Finally, we are on the go

We finally have the final schedule for the Conference. We have had to repeat it because we are 49 people in the end, so we have had to change some restaurants due to capacity problems. However, we are very happy with the numbers, and excited to welcome you in Madrid . The welcome dinner will be at the Hotel Miguel Ángel. The menu is:   Starters:      Salmorejo with Torrija de Pan Tumaca and Crispy Jamón Ibérico .  Main dish: Sea Bass with Pak Choi, Tomato and Seasonal Mushrooms.  Desserts Green Apple small cake with Vanilla Sherbet.    Salmorejo is a very typical Spanish dish, and we eat it specially during the summer.
